So I go to the grocery store this week and one of the things on my list is beer. So here is this pregnant lady wandering through the beer cooler isle at HEB. That was a little awkward for me.
I finish getting all the items on my list and proceed to the checkout counter. I had this lovely older lady checking me out. She noticed the 4 cream cheeses I bought and asked if I was baking. So, we got off on this conversation about all the new recipes we have tried. She comes to scan the last item.... beer. She gives me this funny look. Before she could begin her speech about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (I really don't know if that is what she was going to do), I had to explain that I had this wonderful recipe for beer bread. Another awkward moment!
It was all worth it though. I made the bread today and it was great! Here is the recipe:
Sweet Beer Bread
3 cups self-rising flour (sifted)
1/2 cup sugar
1 - 12 oz bottle of beer
1/4 cup of butter or margarine, melted
Stir together first 3 ingredients; pour into a lightly greased 9'' by 5'' loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Pour melted butter over top. Bake 10 more minutes.
Enjoy! Watch out for the awkward looks! He he!
